The history of tea dates from ancient China, almost 5,000 years ago. According to legend, tea was discovered by Chinese Emperor Shennong in 2732 B.C. when some leaves from a nearby wild tree fell into his pot of boiling water. Then the color of the boiled water became slightly yellow and had a pleasant scent. He was immediately interested in the resulting brew, and drank some. Legend says the Emperor described a warm feeling as he drank the intriguing brew, as if the liquid was investigating every part of his body.
It was discovered by Shennong's past experience of tasting a hundred herbs and judging that it is a kind of medicine. This is the most common saying about the origin of tea drinking in China.
