Sichuan tea exports grow against the trend, export volume increases by 1.5 times year-on-year

The reporter learned from the second promotion meeting of Sichuan tea industry in 2020 that from January to October 2020, Sichuan tea exports grew against the trend. Chengdu Customs exported 168 batches of tea, 3,279 tons, and 5.482 million U.S. dollars, which increased 78.7%, 150.0%, 70.6% year-on-year respectively.

The exported tea varieties include green tea, black tea, scented tea, dark tea, and white tea, of which green tea accounts for more than 70%. The main export countries (regions) are Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, and Algeria. There is no case of unqualified export tea products happening.

Price advantage, convenient customs clearance, and export promotion are the main factors contributing to the increase in Sichuan tea exports this year. This year, Sichuan Province has promoted large-scale mechanized tea harvesting of high-quality bulk tea, and the decline in harvesting costs has brought price advantages. Chengdu Customs has simplified the corporate filing process, opened a “green channel”, and implemented 72-hour rapid testing to ensure rapid customs clearance for tea exports.  The agricultural and rural departments actively hold export “cloud promotion” activities to help expand the export of tea.

In recent years, centering on the goal of building a “100 billion tea industry strong province”, Sichuan Province has listed refined Sichuan tea in the priority development of the “5+1” modern industrial system, and included Sichuan tea in the priority development of the modern agricultural “10+3” industrial system. .

In the face of the unfavorable situation brought about by the epidemic, since the beginning of the year, Sichuan provincial-level departments, major tea producing cities and prefectures, and financial institutions have introduced policies and measures to promote the resumption of work and production of tea enterprises, and promote the construction of tea industry bases, main body cultivation, and market expansion, Brand building and technological support.
